DOWNTOWN ST. PETERSBURG LANDMARK INSPIRES NEO-RETRO CHRISTMAS CARD

There it stands, for the moment, big and bold, 22 feet tall at Central Avenue and 16th Street N., the World Liquors sign. Since the early sixties, it has inspired folks with a need to wet their whistle, now it has inspired artwork...and of all things, artwork used on a Christmas Card. The actual neon sign may not be long for this world as the owners of World Liquors will soon be tearing down the old place to make room for new condos, but the illustrated sign will live on spreading Christmas joy.
Diane Dempsey, a long time resident of St. Pete and local illustrator/designer has an appreciation for all things nostalgic, especially in her home town of St. Pete. So when she was designing her new Christmas card series - An Illustrated Christmas, The World Liquors sign just spoke to her. In fact, it brought her Joy. Now she wishes to bring “Joy to the World” with this imaginative card from the WhatsBuzzin.com Christmas Cards series.
The Illustrated Christmas Series, features brightly illuminated marquees’s flashing unique greetings on neon signs reminiscent of old time Las Vegas, Route 66 or even old A1A. “During the season Holiday cheer is all around us”, says Diane, “and speaking of merry and bright, how can you go wrong with a retro neon message flashing out greetings? The sign designers in the fifties & sixties ad a flair for the fun and imaginative that we just don’t see that often today.”
Inspired by 20th Century Retro American culture, the greeting cards of What's Buzzin' celebrate the fads, fashions, music and design of years gone by.
